The Ondo State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has called on the Barr. Rotimi Akeredolu-led administration in the state to always partner the NUJ in protecting the interest of media professionals working in the state, even as it laments how ‘home-based’ media professionals were treated during the one year anniversary of the Akeredolu’s administration, especially the use of two “foreign” journalists to anchor the “Governor Media Chat” two weeks ago.
The Union made this position known today through a Communiqué Issued and signed by the Communique Drafting Committee, CDC, at the end it’s monthly congress held at the Press Centre, Adegbemile, Alagbaka – Akure.
The Union equally commended Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for his administration’s funding of the State-owned Owena Press (Publisher of The Hope Newspaper).
It however called on the Governor to urgently appoint new Managing Director/Chairman for the outfit, one year after the Company has been without a substantive Head, saying that while the appointment of Mr Akin Adubuola should be confirmed as the substantive Editor.
The Congress attended by members from across the 11 Chapels in the State Council also called on President Muhammadu Buhari as the Commander-in-Chief to launch investigations into the allegation by a former Minister of Defence, General TY Danjuma against the Nigerian Military with the aim of putting an end to the senseless killings in some parts of the country, pointing out that security is the primary responsibility of the government.
” We commend the timely intervention of the Federal Government culminating in the release of abducted Dapchi School girls, however, we are calling for the release of other girls who are still in the Boko Haram captivity as there is the need for government to beef up security in and around schools in the Country to forestall recurrence”.
The Union also unveil programmes lined up for a Special Press Week slated for between 6th and 11th May, 2018.
Ondo NUJ also felicitated with Christian faithful on the occasion of Easter Celebration and urges Nigerians to emulate the good virtues of Jesus Christ in all their endeavours.
