Tragedy struck in Iganbo community of Ijaw Arogbo area of Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State at the weekend as no fewer than six people including a pregnant woman lost their lives and many others seriously injured when a Church under construction collapsed on the victims.
It was reliably gathered that the white garment church which is under construction was by those people in an attempt to gather planks which were used in the construction of the Church building before they met their untimely death.
The incident occurred at C&S Church , Igangbo which was established in 1963 .
According to an eye witness, the victims were in the church premises to gather planks which were to be used as fire wood before part of the dilapidated old structure and the new one under construction fell on them killing six people instantly .
He added that a man simply identified as Chief Ola Golabo lost his two wives Beni and Magi to the incident.
He also stated that a pregnant woman simply identified as Dalen Gunubo was among the victims .
Narrating his ordeal to The Hope in a telephone interview Apostle Ola Goloba (105), a member of the church, who lost two of his wives Margaret (63) and Mayama Goloba ( 78) in the disaster said he is yet to recover from the shock as he said he was not at home when the incident happened.
Speaking with The Hope on the disaster, the traditional head of the community , High Chief Pose Tariwei Tanimawo described the incident as unfortunate
He said the disaster has thrown the whole community into mourning adding that almost all the community residents were affected indirectly
The Traditional Head of the town however appealed to the government to come to their aid in this trying time
Chairman, Ese Odo local government, Hon. Bekewei Olowu while on a condolence visit to the bereaved described the incident as shocking and devastating.
