The Ondo State Government has warned encroachers who use the government forest reserves to plant cannabis otherwise known as Indian hemp to steer clear of the forest or face the wrath of the law.
Special Assistant to the governor on Natural Resources, Hon. Lawal Fatai Olusina gave the warning during a media parley on the activities of the government in the forest reserves.
Olusina disclosed that government has arrested some encroachers dealing in Indian hemp, warning that government will no longer tolerate illegal activities in its forest reserves.
The SA explained that though some people had seemingly remained untouchable in the past administration, the Oluwarotimi Akeredolu led government will not spare anyone who refused to comply with the rules and regulations guiding Allottees operating in the reserves.
“This government will not spare anyone who refused to follow due process in the operation within government reserves.
“When we came, we realized that some people have been parading themselves as untouchable, believing that they can use government machineries to perpetrate frauds against government
“Let me be clear , Mr. Governor is a no – nonsense man, we, working with him, will not spoil his work. We will not tolerate any illegality, we will not condone any corrupt practices
“You can’t rob the government and go free. The era of Godfatherism influencing and covering up illegality is gone. Whoever goes against what is right, will face the music”.
Olusina said the Akeredolu led administration is determined to block loopholes and generate revenue so as to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state.
He also warned those who are threatening officials of the Ministry of Natural Resources to desist from engaging in illegality and toll the path of law.
