NITDA Clears CBN ICT Security, Systems Upgrade

The National Information Technology Development Agency has cleared some of the Central Bank of Nigeria ’s Information and Communications Technology security and systems infrastructure upgrade projects.

This move is part of the NITDA ’s commitment as the government ’s clearing house for all IT procurement and services in the public sector , a statement signed by the agency ’s Head of Corporate Affairs and External Relations , Mrs . Hadiza Umar , stated on Friday .

The projects , according to NITDA , were embarked upon by the CBN in order to mitigate cyber threats in the country ’s financial institutions .

The Director -General , NITDA , Dr. Isa Patanmi , in his clearance letter, commended the apex bank for the proactive way it handled the threats and reiterated NITDA ’s continued support for all initiatives aimed at ensuring that the country ’s cyberspace was safe and secure.

Pantami , earlier this year , had alerted the country to potential cyberattacks that were likely to be experienced , saying that the banking system , health system , power and transportation systems , as well as other critical national infrastructure would be targeted .

One of the cleared projects , as highlighted by the agency , is the Enterprise Network Security – Gateway Security Project , aimed at upgrading the bank ’s network security appliances and ensuring that network security appliances are highly available and provide comprehensive real -time protection against advanced threats.

Others include “the Intelligence Security Operations Centre project that is aimed at providing a dedicated centre , technology and team for continuous monitoring of the bank ’s network to prevent , detect and deal with cyberattacks .

“Implementation of a network access control solution – a security approach designed to restrict the availability of network resources to endpoint devices – aimed at enhancing infrastructure security as well as limiting potential effects from emerging security threats .

“The Identity and Access Management Solution project aimed at ensuring that the right individuals access the right resources /applications at the right time and for the right reasons.”

It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari during last year ’s e -Nigeria International Conference and Exhibition called for strict compliance with the IT project ’s clearance directive by all government establishments.

He also used the event to commend the agency ’s efforts at enforcing the Federal Government ’s directive on ensuring that all ICT projects were cleared before they were implemented .
