The immediate past commissioner for Education in Ondo state, Architect Jide Adejuyigbe, has Advised Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to place priority on funding Education in the state.
He said this on Thursday during a programme on Adaba FM, Akure.
Paired with the commissioner for Information, Hon. Yemi Olowolabi; Adejuyigbe said that the argument of paucity of funds is not a tenable reason for the proposed increment in the tuition fee at Adekunle Ajasin University, while adding that the government must take deliberate action to fund the University and make it affordable for the children of the poor.
He further opined that the government of the day should take a cue from the immediate past who did not only make school fee affordable, but also paid WAEC fees for students in the state.
Olowolabi in his response however, said the school fees as obtainable in AAUA at the moment is not realistic, and that the past government only lacked the courage to effect the increment.
Listeners who phoned in during the programme however called the incumbent government ‘insincere’, while condemning the proposed tuition fees hike.
