Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has called on all the repentant militants who embraced the just concluded State Amnesty Programme to keep faith with his administration as it is making frantic efforts to get the Federal Government to integrate them into the Federal Government Amnesty Scheme.
The Governor made this known while commissioning 10 surveillance boats for Security Patrol along coastal communities of the state in Igbokoda.
Governor Akeredolu stated that his administration has no reason to lure them into surrendering their arms without concrete plans for them.
“We have done our bit. We appreciate your cooperation. We are waiting for the Federal Government to act on your inclusion into the Amnesty Programme.
“Be rest assured that you will not regret your decision to surrender your arms”, he said.
He assured security agencies of his administration’s resolve to continually cooperate with them with a view to delivering on their respective mandate of getting the entire state secured, particularly the waterways.
He said the acquisition of the boats was a deliberate decision of the State Government to step up security across the state to boost the confidence of both residents and genuine investors who are now streaming into the state.
Akeredolu added that the move was also to further demonstrate the commitment of his administration towards the security of lives and property across the state.
While commending the high level of professionalism exhibited by members of the Armed Forces during the just concluded state brand of the Amnesty Programme which gave several repentant militants to surrender their arms and ammunition, Governor Akeredolu said his administration will not encourage the use of private security personnel to police the waterways.
In his welcome address, the Deputy Governor who doubles as Chairman of the State Amnesty Programme Committee, Hon. Agboola Ajayi appreciated the unequalled commitment of the Governor to the success of the Amnesty Programme.
Hon Ajayi added that his committee in concert with Heads of Security Agencies in the state and the tacit support of the Governor had done what was required to give the repentant militants a new lease of life.
The Commanding Officer of the Naval Forward Operational Base, Igbokoda, Captain Sambo Lengaya appreciated the governor for the kind gesture and promised the continued cooperation of officers and men in the command to the State Government.
He assured of adequate use and maintenance of the surveillance boats, adding that it would help checkmate crimes on waterways.
