The Ondo State Government has reiterated it’s commitment to making agriculture the mainstay of the economy in the state through huge investment in the sector.
The Governor made this disclosure through his Deputy, Hon Agboola Ajayi, while receiving the members of the State Agricultural Commodities Association (OSACA) at Governor’s office.
The Governor stated that his administration is determined to give agriculture priority and ensure that OSACA receives support of the government as well as incentives for successful agriculture in the state.
He said government will invest more on agriculture to secure food security in the state, adding that this will discourage importation of food into the country.
According to him, the state government has made move on grazing regulation bill and ensure farmers have their inputs in the bill for it to see the light of the day.
The bill when passed into law, he said will protect farmers and their farms from destruction by herdsmen. He assured the members of the association that all their requests were being given consideration by the state government.
Earlier in his remarks, the State Chairman, OSACA, Mr. Gbenga Obaweya, charged the government to change its mindset and begin to see agriculture as a business. He appealed to the state government to create an enabling environment for the various players in agriculture to thrive in the state.
